41st Annual Detroit Promise Ball Honoring Dr. Grunberger

Breakthrough T1D SE Michigan Chapter (formerly JDRF) hosted the 41st Annual Detroit Promise Ball on Friday, May 15, 2026, at The Station at Michigan Central. The Detroit Promise Ball is the region’s premier fundraising gala dedicated to advancing research focused on curing, preventing, and treating type 1 diabetes (T1D).

This year’s event honored Dr. George Grunberger, MD, FACP, MACE, Chairman of the Grunberger Diabetes Institute, with the prestigious Jane Jospey Cobb Award. Dr. Grunberger is recognized for his more than 45 years of unwavering commitment to Breakthrough T1D’s mission, his leadership in clinical endocrinology, and his instrumental role in advancing education and research within the T1D community.

The evening featured live and silent auctions, entertainment by the Detroit Urban Orchestra, and Breakthrough T1D’s Fund a Cure program, with 100% of tax-deductible donations supporting key research priorities such as artificial pancreas technology and beta cell replacement therapies.

For endocrinologists, researchers, and community leaders, the Detroit Promise Ball is a meaningful opportunity to come together in support of scientific breakthroughs that improve and save lives affected by type 1 diabetes.
